Pitting and crevice corrosion

To evaluate the resistance to pitting corrosion according to ASTM G48, a sample is immersed in a FeCl3-solution at temperatures above room temperature. This test can be obligatory for welding procedure qualification. Testing according to ASTM G78 provides information on the resistance of stainless steel to crevice corrosion.
